Examines the construction of race and ethnicity and the resulting tensions and tension management in three societies (Brazil, South Africa, and the United States). Concepts and theories of race and ethnic relations will be used to interpret social, cultural and political processes in the three societies. Prerequisites: SOC 1000 or AAST 1000 or ANTH1200 or AIST 1350 or SOC 2350 or other ethnic studies taken by students; and Junior or senior standing and consultation with instructor.
